Just over one month ago Leftlane brought you the first images and detailed specs on the limited run 1,250 horsepower Zenvo ST-1 50Shypercar – today we introduce you to a new hypercar with an even more ridiculous power rating: the Shelby Supercars Tuatara.

Taking a page out of Pagani’s Huayra-esque naming book, SSC says they spent months researching the appropriate name for their all-new hypercar before finally settling on the difficult to pronounce (at first glance) Tuatara name (pronounced Twu-tar-ah), named after a lizard in New Zealand that boasts the fastest changing DNA of any known creature on Earth.

“The design specifications for the Next Generation SSC were so extreme; we knew early on that a proper name would be a key piece of the puzzle for this project,” explainss Jerod Shelby, founder, lead designer and CEO of SSC in a short video.

Although full specifications are still on the way, so far SSC says the world can expect the Tuatara to arrive with an ultralight carbon fiber body, cab and sub-frames with aluminum crash structures. The ultralight body and chassis provide a home for a 7.0-liter dual-overhead cam (DOHC) V8 engine that is force-fed air with two turbochargers.
The end result? An astonishing 1,350 horsepower (torque not yet disclosed) which is transferred to one-piece carbon fiber wheels through either a seven-speed manual H-pattern transmission or a seven-speed SMG transmission with paddle shifters.
While SSC has yet to finalize numbers, so far it appears the supercar maker has made a truly deserving successor to the Ultimate Aero in the all-new Tuatara.
