I had a slot car racing set when I was a kid, but if I pushed the speed just a little too far, the car would fly off the track. That doesn't seem to be a problem for these middle aged slot car enthusiasts from Finland, who simply floor their cars to race at speeds that make the Tron Cycle race look kind of slow.
Like many children's toys when things get really serious, the kids have been pushed aside, and the racing looks like it's strictly for the grown ups. Each racer has their own high-end pit, where they can repair and modify their cars to get an edge over the other competitors. The track is no amateur effort either, with official spotters seem to have no problem standing on the track surface when they go to retrieve the crashed cars.
Keeping track of who has made the most laps is completely impossible with the naked eye, so some kind of electronic lap counter keeps the tally. The winning driver covered 119 laps in just a couple of minutes, so don't blink. The cars look like they're probably breaking the actual street speed limit for full sized cars, so it's hard to imagine what the scale speed would be.
