Whatever the language, Autobot vs. Decepticon action translates like a fine Bordeaux wine. So take a sip of the official French teaser for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, showing shards of alternate footage and the first look at a few new characters. Mais oui!
The trailer clocks in at a tight 1 minute and offers our first glimpse of John Malkovich (playing brash businessman Bruce Brazos) and Patrick Dempsey (as a wealthy race-car driver named Dylan living in a penthouse suite at Chicago's Trump Tower, in a role described only as "dark") sprinting through a collapsing skyscraper.
It's essentially a condensed version of the full "shock and awe" theatrical trailer that has our blood optimistically pumping for a satisfying gulp of sci-fi gold.
How does Optimus Prime sound delivering dire warnings with a sophisticated French accent? Still pretty cool. Luckily, he's not wearing a jaunty red beret.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon uncorks in theaters July 1.
