Our favorite quadrocopter is back and better than ever. Parrot's AR.Drone 2.0 boasts improvements in camera resolution, a more robust app that lets you share your recordings and two different hulls for indoor and outdoor flying. Basically, the AR.Drone 2.0 is the new best quadrocopter.
To make a sweet 'copter even sweeter, Parrot upgraded the cameras to shoot 720p HD video and transmit it in real-time to your iPhone, iPad, Xoom, Galaxy S, or Android device of choice.
Parrot reps claim that the higher resolution camera can also track certain colors and shapes for augmented reality-style gaming, something the first iteration of the AR.Drone played around with.
That's not all, the AR.Flight 2.0 app (for iOS and Android) gives you cool new features such as geolocation data that tell you suitable flight routes, the ability to upload your recorded videos to YouTube, and access to more robust AR.Drone games. There's also an alternate hull without the blade covers for better outdoor handling, which is where you may find yourself flying if you like said AR games.
We didn't get to try out the AR.Drone 2.0 for ourselves (we'll hopefully get that chance later this week), but from what we could tell and in the video we shot below, stability's increased thanks to a new pressure sensor.
Parrot's upgrade looks rock solid and we really can't wait to test one out. The cost? A hefty $300. The release date? Parrot's mum, but says it will be out by the end of Q2.
