The third trailer for the upcoming Battleship is here, and if you think you've seen explosions and alien action before, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
As our friends at The Playlist hinted, this trailer is really the clearest sign yet thatBattleship could easily be called Transformers 4: Lost at Sea. You have Taylor Kitsch in the Shia LaBeouf role; you have Brooklyn Decker in the Megan Fox/Rosie Huntington-Whiteley spot; and you have tons of alien spacecraft buzzing through the air, over the ocean, and along the ground, while the armored, mechanized-looking baddies themselves strike menacing poses.
There are buildings in Hong Kong toppling over, cars flying through the air, fireballs plowing into city streets and even an entire aircraft carrier being blown to smithereens and sinking straight into the drink in a shot right out of Titanic.
And then, of course, you have Rihanna, who gets not one but two close-ups in the new trailer.
It all looks over the top and way out of control, which could either work in its favor or not. Battleshipcould either join John Carter as the second massive sci-fi bomb of the year, or turn into a huge success that has the studio scrambling to find some guy to write a sequel by next week. Somehow we think it could be the latter: Audiences generally love to see our boys in uniform go head-to-whatever with alien armies, all while employing as many high-tech weapons and explosions as possible.
We'll look for the first reviews to arrive out of the U.K., where Battleship opens next month. The fight comes to U.S. theaters on May 18.
