Air conditioners that spray air-purifying, skin-moisturizing vitamin C? Check. Heated chairs that use NASA research to offer better blood circulation for the driver? Yep! "Friendly" speedometers? Okay, what does that even mean?
Nissan announced all that and more at an event near Tokyo on Wednesday. Those "friendly" speedometers may be more like a built-in car calender that talks to you, as it'll have your car reminding you about birthdays or anniversaries when you get in.
The vaporized vitamin C is supposed to make your skin feel better and combat the stuffiness a car can build up after long hours driving, and the space-age seats will also be accompanied by some smart braking deck. Sensors in upcoming Nissan cars will be able to tell when there's a hard brake in front of you, and the car will beep (much like most do when you're backing up into something), automatically ease off of the accelerator and start to brake for you.
With the Nissan all-electric Leaf coming out later this year (the interior of which is pictured above), it'll be interesting to see if comfort is as big as a selling factor as going green. As someone who doesn't own and car and relies on public transport in NYC, how about tossing this kind of stuff in buses and trains — the most uncomfortable way to commute — too?
