With much of the U.S. staring down yet another polar vortex event, it seems like we're in the midst of a winter worthy of a George R. R Martin novel. But even if winter is coming (or winter is already here), these are not the dark ages, because we've got the tech to beat even the worst of nature's wrath into submission. This is the MTT-136.
Dubbed "My Track Technology" by inventor Yvon Martel, this odd-looking invention is basically a team of sled dogs crammed into a compact tank tread. It sort of resembles a cross between a lawnmower and a chainsaw, and it slices through snow, mud, and streams alike in its single-minded quest to get you from point A to point B via the shortest route possible. Weighing in at 280 pounds, the MTT-136 is powered by an electric engine with a range of up to 137 miles, depending on which batteries you've got installed. Controlled by a specially-designed handlebar, it can reach a top speed of 24 miles per hour, making it as good as all but the very best dog sled teams out there.
Plowing snow and pushing your SUV out of a rut are also well within the MTT-136's capabilities, making it something of a winter wondermobile. Martel is still looking for manufacturers and distributors, so the specs we've got thus far are only preliminary. Sadly, it also means that the MTT-136 won't be available at your local Home Depot anytime soon. But with winter still throwing storm after storm at much of the U.S., who's to say that it wont show up before the snow melts in something like the fourth year of continuous winter misery.
