It’s the kind of helmet “Robocop” would wear. And it could put a nice high-tech spin on your next motorcycle road trip.
A new device dubbed “The World’s Smartest Motorcycle Helmet” is taking pre-orders, and donations, on crowdfunding website Indiegogo. The Skully AR-1 has a transparent heads-up display that feeds information right onto your visor — including what’s going on behind you.
This is what you see when
wearing the helmet. You can see behind you and even answer calls, thanks
to the heads-up display (Photo: Skully)
The helmet features a 180-degree
rearview camera that projects an image on the lower right of your
heads-up display, virtually eliminating blind spots.
The heads-up display also feeds
you other information such as speed and GPS directions. Additional
features include Bluetooth connectivity, hands-free calling, and
streaming music.

This high-tech headgear comes at
a price that might make your head spin: $1,399 — and that’s just the
introductory price Skully’s offering to those who donate via Indiegogo.
But the campaign has been super-successful; Skully started with a goal
of $250,000, but it will end this week with well over $2,000,000.
The company hopes customers will
have their helmets in May of 2015. Some of us here are tempted to learn
how to ride a motorcycle just so we can test on of these babies out. VIDEO
