Hyundai confirms twin-turbo V6 for Genesis sedan
Hyundai has confirmed plans to downsize the engine in its range-topping Genesis sedan.
Following the industry trend, the company will introduce a new twin-turbocharged V6 engine to replace the current 5.0-liter Tau V8, according to an Automotive News report that quotes Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski.

Specific details remain unclear, though the forced-induction six-cylinder will presumably meet or exceed the V8's 420 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

It is unclear if the switch will also bring optional all-wheel-drive, which is currently only available with the naturally-aspirated V6. Rumors circulating last year pointed to a performance variant with all-wheel-drive, suggesting the turbocharged six could power a new R-Spec package.

The executive hints at further expansion of the downsizing strategy across the entire Hyundai lineup. Smaller engines are primarily aimed at meeting government mpg targets, but lighter curb weights are also an added incentive.

"You're going to see smaller displacement, more use of turbocharging," Zuchowski said.

The Genesis will receive its new powerplant in 2017 or 2018.
