They're not using some ordinary flaming stick for the Olympic torch. The talisman of the 2010 Winter Games, carried all over Greece and Canada since October 30, 2009, is literally way-cool. Its flame burns at the lowest temperature of any Olympic torch in history, thanks to its fuel mixture of propane and the refrigerant isobutane.
It was designed by the 2010 Winter Olympics design director Leo Obstbaum and built by jetmaker/high-speed train manufacturer Bombardier. There were 12,000 of these gorgeous torches hand-assembled in Montréal, one for each carrier. We especially like that vent on the side in the shape of the Canadian maple leaf. Classy. [Photos]
