There's a billboard in Tokyo right now that's watching people as they walk by and deciding what kind of ads to show them. It's not so personal that it'll flash your name on the screen. Instead, it's looking for things like age and gender and then showing demographic-appropriate ads.
If you've ever seen Minority Report, then of course the similarities to the billboards in the movie are obvious. One even address Tom Cruise's character by name as he hurries by.
While we don't quite have billboards like that in the US, we still do have interactive advertising. Just last month we showed you a billboard in Times Square, where a giant model took photos of the crowd and then showed them the picture.
Does this kind of advertising make you uncomfortable? Tokyo's sounds general enough that it won't have people crying "Big Brother!" but you certainly want a billboard tossing embarrassing medical concerns or worse as you on the street.
