The U.K. tabloids are all abuzz this week about a famous baby, and it's not Prince George. It has just been revealed that eternal bachelor Simon Cowell is going to be a dad — and the mother of his unborn child is actually the estranged wife of one of his good friends.
According to Us Weekly and People, 36-year-old socialite Lauren Silverman — who is still legally married to Simon's pal, New York real estate tycoon Andrew Silverman — is 10 weeks pregnant with 53-year-old Simon's first child.
"Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while," an unnamed source told Us. "As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close."
While various reps for Simon have not returned Yahoo!'s requests for comment, and Simon himself has yet to confirm the news, Simon's "Britain's Got Talent" co-judge, David Walliams, did tweet Wednesday morning that Simon is "doing a baby with a lady."
Simon doesn't seem to be ideal daddy material. Aside from his well-documented commitmentphobia (he split from fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy in 2012, the same year he reportedly began seeing Lauren), workaholic tendencies, and long-televised history of being nasty to young, sensitive singers, the man known to some contestants as "Uncle Simon" has said more than once, on the record, that he's not cut out for fatherhood. "Britain's Got Talent" judge Amanda Holden even told U.K. paper Metro just this year, "Everybody is obsessed about [Simon] getting married and having kids. But that is never going to happen. Not everyone wants that out of life."

I do like kids. I'm not sure I would be a good dad for the first six months or so but once they know who I am, I would like it. I definitely haven't ruled out having children. I think I'd rather have my own but then again I wouldn't completely rule out adopting either. If I did have a child, I have to say I'd prefer a girl."
Hopefully Simon's stint as the godparent to his ex-girlfriend Sinitta's children has given him some training in this area. And as for the fidelity thing, Us is also reporting that Lauren is planning to leave her husband for a relationship with Simon, so watch this space.
