Two weeks after the first real leaks hit the web, LG has finally announced its curved smartphone: the G Flex. As expected, the smartphone boasts the G2's rear button design, a plastic OLED (POLED) curved display and a curved battery. The biggest surprise, though, is the G Flex's "self healing" rear cover.
According to LG's press release, the G Flex's rear cover has an elastic coating that can "recover from the daily wear-and-tear scratches and nicks that un-cased smartphones are likely to receive, keeping the G Flex looking newer longer." It's not quite Terminator self-healing level stuff, but it's still a world's first for a smartphone and pretty darn cool, especially if you like your devices as pristine as possible.
But why make a smartphone with a curved smartphone now? LG includes a number of reasons for creating the G Flex: the curve brings the mic closer to your mouth (like on old landline phones), it's easier to grip and the curve makes it fit better in your back pocket. Additionally, the curved display is supposed to create an "IMAX-like experience." If it's anything like the company's curved OLED TV, our eyeballs are in for a real treat.
In terms of specs, the G Flex has a 6-inch (1280 x 720 resolution) display, 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage 13-megapixel rear camera and a 3500mAh seal battery, which should last you all day.
