Darren Aronofsky still hasn't given up on RoboCop

Remember the remake of RoboCop that was supposed to happen a couple of years ago? Well, the director attached to the project still hopes to make it someday.
Darren Aronofsky, whose credits include sci-fi gems like Pi and The Fountain, plus the new ballet-school psychological thriller Black Swan, told The Playlist that RoboCop"may still happen one day."

The project was set up at MGM but fell victim to the same financial woes that nearly deep-sixed The Hobbit and have put James Bond into semi-retirement. Aronofsky said, "It's MGM, and hopefully they'll clear their stuff up, and I'm still interested. David Self wrote a great script, but the company went under, so ... "
Aronofsky did not elaborate further, but The Playlist noted that he has another cyborg film in the works called Machine Man. The project is based on an online serial by Australian writer Max Barry, which itself is being turned into a book, about a man who begins enhancing his body with "high-end" mechanical parts. Aronofsky will presumably make Machine Man after he shoots The Wolverine next year ... unless, of course, RoboCop gets rescued from the MGM junk heap.
In the meantime, go see Black Swan (which opens in limited release this weekend) and think about whether you'd like to see that RoboCop remake with Aronofsky at the helm ...
