NVIDIA has seen a sharp rise in orders for its new Tegra 2 chipset, a dual core graphics card that is believed to be in Motorola’s fourth coming tab, and electronics giant Samsung, has also placed a substantial order for the new cards.
The Tegra is designed to work in smartphones and tablets, and is a market that NVIDIA sees as profitable. Mike Rayfield, NVIDIA’s general manger said in a blog post. “I’d bet that CES 2011 will usher in the year that fully fledged superphones hit the market and really take off, building on the first stirrings of the concept that Google introduced with its phone.”
He went on to hint that the term superphone and the Tegra will become synonymous.
“The term superphone began to simmer earlier this year. What you should expect at CES is for the superphone category to really reach full boil.”
The Tegra will be unveiled at the CES in 2011, where NVIDIA will detail the graphic card at a press conference.
