Most video editing software look something like the photo above, if not more complicated. Magisto realizes that not everybody wants to spend long hours editing videos into YouTube-worthy viral videos, so its created a website that automatically does it for you.
Magisto claims its proprietary technology is so intelligent, it can actually pull out the exciting parts of up to 16 unedited video files, and blend them together to create something visually appealing that'll hold your attention.
The average person doesn't edit videos," says Magisto co-founder and CEO Oren Boiman. "So they either post long boring videos nobody wants to watch, or they save them on their hard drive -- unwatched, unedited, unshared. We made Magisto to give people a way to take their videos and turn them into movies that are fun to watch and easy to share."
Call me a skeptic, but how can any technology pick and choose what's considered "interesting?" Magisto says its software picks apart the best footage by using facial recognition technology and spatial identifiers, so that it "understands the difference between people, objects, pets and landscapes, and even capture the intent of the filmmaker."
While I haven't tried it myself, Mashable claims it "works impressively well." I know what I'll be doing this week then. And that is, shooting lots of long and crappy videos, then tossing them up in Magisto's mixer to see what results I can get. Let's see if Magisto can really rival a couple hours spent fumbling with iMovie just to get watchable one minute clip or not.
