WASHINGTON — Nissan is recalling 79,275 2011-'12 Nissan Juke and Infiniti M and QX vehicles because of a possible fuel leak that may increase the risk of fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The fuel-pressure sensors may not have been tightened to the correct specification," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "The fuel-pressure sensor may loosen due to heat and vibration causing fuel to leak. Fuel may leak from the pressure sensor, increasing the risk of a fire."
Nissan says "no thermal incidents were reported in the field as a result of this issue." It also told federal safety regulators that no other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles are affected by the recall because the fuel-pressure sensor is only used with direct-injection engines.
Nissan received a consumer complaint on November 3, 2011 about a fuel odor in the cabin while the air-conditioning was turned on. The complaint triggered an internal investigation, leading to the recall.
The recall will begin on March 19.
Nissan dealers will replace the fuel-pressure sensors, as necessary. Owners can contact Nissan at (615) 725-1000. LINK
