Filming on Syfy's epic new alien-invasion drama Defiance officially started a few weeks ago, and the creators have put together an awesome behind-the-scenes video that breaks down exactly what we can expect from what looks to be one of the most ambitious projects of the year.
Defiance is both a TV show and videogame, and it weaves together stories via both media, all set in the same universe. The TV series will follow the survivors of an alien invasion, in a small frontier town, while the game will be set across the country but in the same, connected world.
The creators break down the premise and dig into how the series will work across media and how they plan to keep both sides of the story engaging.
Here's the official description, including the star-studded cast list:
Set in the near future, Defiance introduces players and viewers to a completely transformed planet Earth, inhabited by the disparate survivors of a universal war who endeavor to build a new society among the devastation. The game combines the intense action of a AAA console shooter, with the persistence, scale, and customization of an MMO, while its TV counterpart weaves the rich tapestry of the world into a series with the scope, characters, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Because they exist in a single universe, the show and the game will influence each other and evolve together over time, with actions in both mediums driving the overall story of Defiance.Defiance stars Grant Bowler (True Blood), Julie Benz (Dexter), Jaime Murray (Warehouse 13), Tony Curran (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Blade II), Stephanie Leonidas (Mirrormask, BBC's Dracula), and Graham Greene (Dances with Wolves), plus recent additions Mia Kirshner (Not Another Teen Movie, 24) and Fionnula Flanagan (Lost) as fascinating characters whom you'll get to meet in the game.
