The Walking Dead is kicking off season three the right way—with Michonne! AMC has unveiled the first official photo of Danai Gurira as the badass, sword-wielding zombie slayer. And judging from this photo, she's everything we wanted her to be and more.
One of the final moments of season two featured Andrea being saved by a shrouded figure. It was a hooded woman with a katana and two limbless zombies at her side. Fans of the comic knew who she was and what she brought to the table.
Now, months after the cliffhanger, we get to see more of Michonne in her element.Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the similarities and potential differences between Michonne in the comic and on the show.
"The essence of the character—her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne—remains intact from the comics," says Kirkman "But like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they'll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did."
The Walking Dead returns to AMC this fall.
So what do you think? Is this the Michonne you had in mind?
