The folks behind RoboCop have gotten their act together. After casting shakeups and rumors of a hellish production, filming is finally underway. Not only that, but MGM and Columbia have released an official plot synopsis.
RoboCop is based on the 1987 film (from Paul Verhoeven), with a screenplay adapted by Josh Zetumer and Nick Schenk. There are some slight variations but for the most part it sticks to the original story.
The rest of the cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Filming on RoboCop beings Saturday, Sept. 15 in Toronto. It's directed by José Padilha and scheduled to hit theaters Aug. 9, 2013.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.OmniCorp sounds as ambitious (and money-hungry) as ever. Michael Keaton will play its villainous CEO Raymond Sellars, a role originally meant for Hugh Laurie. Gary Oldman is Norton, the scientist that creates RoboCop, while Michael Kenneth Williams stars as Murphy's partner.
