Marvel exec responds to Iron Man/Guardians of the Galaxy rumor

There’s a rumor making the rounds that a certain member of The Avengers could hook up with Marvel’s other big screen super-team to help kick off 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel’s film consultant Brian Michael Bendis has now tackled that report, and his response is definitely intriguing.

Bendis, who is writing a new run of Guardians of the Galaxy comics and pulling double duty as a Marvel film consultant, was asked about the recent report that Iron Man 3might find Tony Stark heading into deep space to help out Star-Lord & Co. on their big adventure. His response?
“Tony standing back and wondering what the Earth needs from him… what he can do for the Earth, for the galaxy… and then taking that back into his next Avengers adventure is a good story worth telling with Tony Stark.”
That’s about as vague as you can be to avoid the question, but the fact that he doesn’t shoot it down outright is pretty telling.
Speculation has run rampant that Marvel would use Iron Man 3 as a jumping off point to introduce the masses to the world of Guardians, and even Robert Downey, Jr. has offered some teasing comments that only helped fan the flames. Plus, we already know a deep space armor suit will feature into the sequel in some form or fashion.
You'd think it'd be a no-brainer to use your biggest standalone franchise to help launch the riskiest movie on the Phase 2 roster, so we're curious to see if Marvel agrees. What do you think? Would you like to see Iron Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy team up to battle an intergalactic threat?
