Vimeo users can now jazz up their videos with over 500 filters

These days, anyone can become a video editing wizard with easy-to-use apps like iMovie. But getting the right "Hollywood-style effect" still requires some advanced technical know-how. It's a good thing Vimeo just updated its Enhancer toolbox with over 500 "high quality, stylistic visual effects" for users to play around with.

Vimeo's video filters are called "Looks" and now complement Enhancer's audio editing features introduced last year. Unlike YouTube's dozen or so filter effects, Vimeo stated in a press release that Looks are "powered by Vivoom, the visual enhancing platform built on the same cutting-edge technology that has been used by top TV and film production studios for the past 16 years."
Looks can be previewed in real-time and matched against the original uploaded video, and the intensity of each effect can be adjusted between zero and 100%. You can think of it like applying opacity in an image editing program, but for videos. And again, unlike on YouTube, where effects are applied to the entire video, different Looks can be trimmed and applied to specific frames of a video.
That's all great and everything, but how do you sort through over 500 possible filter effects? Easy: Enhancer analyzes your footage and recommends Looks that it thinks will fit your content. Of course, you can also manually scan through the filters, picking and choosing what you want. It'll just take way longer.
Here's what using Enhancer's real-time Looks preview looks like:
It kind of reminds you of Instagram (but for video), doesn't it? While having access to tons of effects is nice, what it all ultimately boils down to is whether or not applying the filters is a simple process. We can safely say adding different Looks is very easy to do. It's so easy that any tech-illiterate person can get the hang of it quickly.
But having access to 500 high quality video filters sounds a little too good to be true, right? Naturally, your skepticism doesn't betray you. Vimeo is offering registered users full access to the entire library of Looks for free, but for only 90 days, starting today. Once the trial introductory period is over, each filter will cost $0.99.
