Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are fairly common in today's connected world. For instance, they were used a ton by LulzSec for taking down Sony in 2011. A DDoS attack happens when a computer network is bombarded with communications requests that render it to be useless or "taken down." And this is what it looks like visualized through a fancy data log.
Using a website access log visualization tool called Logstalgia (also called ApachePong), VideoLAN developer Ludovic Fauvet was able to show what a recent DDoS attack on the company's site looked like. The end result is something that resembles astro Pong or a video game Tetsuya Mizuguchi (of Rez, Lumines and Child of Eden fame) would have designed. Someone just needs to add a kickin' track to the video and it's golden.
The bigger question is, who would want to attack VideoLAN? They make the world's best open source video player called VLC Player and they give it away for free. Everyone loves VideoLAN.
