Honda Ridgeline to take two-year sabbatical
Honda's Ridgeline pickup truck will take a two-year leave of absence before an all-new model arrives sometime during the second quarter of 2016.

Honda originally planned to send the current version of the Ridgeline into the sunset during the spring of 2016, but the Japanese automaker has now decided to pull the plug on the slow-selling pickup in September of 2014.

Although Honda will kill the current generation of the Ridgeline earlier than expected, the launch date for the new version of the truck remains unchanged. According to WardsAuto, he Ridgeline's successor should enter production during the second quarter of 2016.

Introduced into the United States for the 2006 model year, the Ridgeline was initially met with solid demand. During its first year on the market, the Ridgeline tallied a respectable 50,193 deliveries.

However, sales steadily declined from there, prompting rumors of the Ridgeline's decline. For its part, Honda has maintained that the Ridgeline is an important part of its vehicle lineup.

“(While) we don't comment on future product decisions, Ridgeline continues to be an important part of our lineup and we're pleased with Ridgeline sales, up 24% year-on-year and 32% in June,” Honda spokesman Steve Kinkade said.

Honda sold 14,068 units of the Ridgeline last year, representing a 44.2 percent improvement over the year prior.
