This impossible-looking pincushion building is real

The image you see above is not a rendering, despite all appearances. It's a photo taken by Iñigo Bujedo Aguirre of British designer Thomas Heatherwick's UK Pavilion, which opened on May 1st as part of the Shanghai Expo in China. That "pincushion" effect is actually a mass of 60,000 fiber-opticrods that give the building a ghostly glow at night.
