Apple has filed complaints with eBay over a figurine that resembles Steve Jobs. The items are disappearing from the site quickly.It’s moves like this that make people want a Steve Jobs action figure. Only a day after a Steve Jobs action figure sold for $2,500 on eBay, Apple has closed at least one other eBay listing, citing that it “violates a celebrity’s right of publicity.” That celebrity is Apple CEO Steve Jobs. The figurines come from M.I.C Gadget, which was ordered to stop selling them in November. 300 were sold before the ban and 100 were shipped.
Yesterday, a Canadian eBay seller contacted AppleInsider to tell them about the removal. The complaint letter and notification of removal said: “The rights owner or an agent authorized to act on behalf of the rights owner, Apple Inc., notified eBay that this listing violates intellectual property rights. When eBay receives a report of this type of violation, we remove the listing to comply with the law.” The figurine had just sold for a final price of $1,125 before the listing was removed.
Still, the removal hasn’t stopped others from trying to cash in on their Steve Jobs action figures. One listing actually reads “APPLE HAD ALL STEVE JOBS ACTION FIGURE AUCTIONS REMOVED! BUY IT NOW SO YOU CAN GET ONE! HURRY! NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS AUCTION WILL RUN A FULL DAY!” Bidding has already ended on the item with 0 bids logged. Apple may have gotten to this one as well.
The quality of the piece is actually pretty good when compared to most bobble-head-like figurines. Very few people can pull off the black turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers look. Jobs wears it with authority.
