Most Super Bowl ads run for 30 seconds. Advertisers with deeper pockets might spring for a 60 second spot. But Chrysler will be trumping all others during Sunday’s game with a two-minute long commercial during the third quarter.
Although Chrysler has no shortage of brands to promote during the 120 second advertisement, the entire commercial will focus on just one Chrysler brand. However, the Michigan automaker is keeping mum about which brand will be featured in the spot.
“I won’t tell you what it’s about, but it will be worth watching,” Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said. “One of the things we have to do is make the distinction about what is essential about the four brands. We will start doing that.”
Marchionne didn’t reveal how much the 2 minute ad set Chrysler back, but the going rate for a 30 second spot is about $3 million. Chrysler was the only of the Detroit Three to advertise during last year’s game.
Chrysler had to get special permission from the NFL for the commercial as most TV breaks are 90 seconds long.
