The last time we checked in with the fantastic sun readable Pixel Qi screen, it was just a DIY hack. Now it's a full-blown netbook made to order.
Using a "state-of-the-art" LED backlit transflective LCD display, the SunBook is similar to looking at an e-reader's E Ink screen in direct sunlight — it has virtually no glare.
Clover Systems is charging $795 for the SunBook, a generic $400 netbook with your standard Intel Atom 1.66 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 250GB of storage, 10.1-inch screen (1024 x 600), SD card slot, three USB ports, ethernet, webcam and of course, Windows 7 Starter.
The markup for the screen is essentially double the cost of a netbook without the Pixel Qi screen. Don't worry, if you're not afraid to tear open your netbook, the screen itself can still be purchased for $275.
Who knows, maybe you're a person who spends a lot of time on the beach or on the deck of a yacht. If that sounds like you, then maybe $800 might be worth it.
