Marvel FIRED Thor 2's director (and Natalie Portman is pissed)

We were hoping that Thor 2 would be a good action-adventure movie. What we didn't realize was that it would also be a drama.
As we reported last week, Marvel and director Patty Jenkins parted ways over "creative differences." But here's the lowdown on what really happened—and why Natalie Portman is deeply upset.

The Hollywood Reporter spoke to an insider, who gave it to us straight: Marvel pulled Jenkins because they felt that she "showed an overall lack of clarity in her choices." In addition to that:
A source with firsthand knowledge of the production says Marvel became concerned that Jenkins was not moving decisively enough and feared the film might miss its November 2013 release date. Exactly how Jenkins should have acted more decisively is unclear since no script was in place.
An associate of Jenkins countered that she did have a vision, one so particular that she never expected to be hired for Thor 2 in the first place.
Meanwhile, Portman had hoped to take a break from acting after the birth of her son. But she agreed to reprise her role as Jane Foster when Jenkins, who had directed Monster (about a female serial killer, for which Charlize Theron had won an Oscar), had been hired to direct. Marvel dismissed Jenkins soon after Portman had signed on.
Now Portman is contractually obligated to appear, even without the director she had hoped to work with.
This story doesn't have an ending yet, so we don't know if it's going to be a happy one. But The Hollywood Reporter notes, "Marvel is now said to be working overtime to smooth over the situation by including [Portman] in discussions about whom to hire as a replacement." LINK
