MELBOURNE, Australia — Ford Australia has released a sketch of its second-generation Territory crossover that's due in 2011. The buzz from Down Under is that the rakish new design, in fact, is a preview of the next-generation Ford Escape in North America, which will be displayed in concept form next month at the2011 Detroit Auto Show.
Ford confirmed that both crossover vehicles will have some similarity when it observed, in the blurb attached to the Territory sketch, that the new Australian design "provides a glimpse into the future of Ford's global SUV styling."
The Territory, which was introduced in 2004, is based on the Australian Falcon and is expected to carry over its current 4.0-liter inline-6, while adding a new turbodiesel option for 2011.
The redesigned Territory joins a lengthy list of new Ford products in Australia, including the new Ranger pickup, a new Focus and a face-lifted Falcon. LINK
