TOKYO — The Nissan Juke Nismo Concept, which debuted on Tuesday at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show, signals a new strategy for the automaker's high-performance Nismo arm.
Nissan said it will expand its lineup of Nismo models, parts and accessories and move to a new global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan in 2013.
"We aim to bring Nismo's passion and focus on driving excitement to mainstream models and the Juke Nismo Concept shows what we can do," said Carlos Ghosn, Nissan president and CEO in a statement.
Nissan did not confirm any production plans for the Juke Nismo. The Juke Nismo Concept "shows what the future might bring," said Nissan in a statement.
Nismo's activities have "been restricted to halo performance cars like the Z series in a small number of markets," the automaker said in a statement. "That is about to change."
The Nismo name is derived from Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd.
The Juke Nismo Concept gets a pearl white exterior paint job with red highlights, along with revised bumpers, wider fenders and sill side skirts. The tailgate spoiler has been modified to control airflow more efficiently. A stiffer chassis and new 19-inch alloy wheels enhance performance. The 1.6-liter direct injection turbo engine has been tuned to deliver more power. The cabin gets a center console with a metallic coating and leather-trimmed bucket seats. LINK
