The creators of HBO's Game of Thrones have managed to do a lot within the limitations of a cable TV series budget, and George R.R. Martin thinks they're doing a great job regardless. But he does have one complaint—in his mind, he imagined the recent Battle of Blackwater to be a lot more epic than what made it to screen.
In an interview with Vulture, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin tackled a few fan questions, including his take on translating his massive fantasy series to the constraints of the small screen.
He of course praised showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, but he said that with a bigger budget, he thinks the recent episode tackling the Battle of Blackwater could have been a game-changing piece of television—as opposed to just a really awesome TV episode. But, alas, the budget just wasn't meant to be.
