Whether you want it or not, Transformers 4 is happening. Michael Bay is wasting no time finding a new face for the franchise. Instead of going with a young unknown, the director's eyeing a more established actor.
Twitch is reporting that Mark Wahlberg is in early talks to star in the robot sequel. The actor recently worked with Bay on his bodybuilding project Pain and Gain, which is under the Paramount umbrella—like Transformers. The screenplay will be written by Ehren Kruger, who wrote Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
The new story will center on an adult protagonist and his teenage kid. That younger character would eventually become the focus of the following sequels. It's still very early in the game, but Wahlberg's a real possibility. His screen presence would be an interesting contrast to what Shia LaBeouf brought to the table.
