Looks like The CW and DC Comics are enjoying a fruitful TV marriage yet again. After posting the most-watched CW broadcast in three years with its premiere and staying strong in its second week on the air, Arrow is getting a full season of vigilante justice.
The Green Arrow himself, star Stephen Amell, tweeted Monday that the show just got some good news.
Arrow's premiere episode earned 4.14 million viewers and a strong 1.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic, making it The CW's best premiere since the debut of perennial hit The Vampire Diaries. It lost a few viewers in its second week but maintained that demo rating score, giving CW executives enough confidence in the series to kick it up to a full 22-episode first year.
"Our strategy of rolling out our new fall schedule later in the year really paid off for the CW on several levels, especially with Arrow, which was the network's most watched premiere in three years and is one of the breakout hits of the new season," CW president Mark Pedowitz said. "I'm proud of the quality of Arrow and I'm happy we'll be able to share more of it with viewers."
What do you think? Is this Arrow's first step on the road to Smallville-like longevity, or is this show destined to be a flash-in-the-pan, one-season series?
