The theme to E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial is a classic tune that can immediately invoke a wave of nostalgia for a generation of Steven Spielberg fans. But before it was tugging our heartstrings, Spielberg and composer John Williams were banging that sucker out on a piano to make it sound just right.
With the film's 30th anniversary upon us, some neat footage of Spielberg and Williams trying to piece the theme together has surfaced, which is an amazing glimpse into the humble genesis of what would become a hugely iconic piece of music.
For hardcore E.T. fans, the clip is a great companion piece to the recently recovered clipshowing young star Henry Thomas' (Elliott) original audition that won him the role.
