New synopsis for Wolverine sequel takes source material seriously
The first Wolverine spinoff movie may not have been the greatest superhero narrative to be released into international cinema, what with its shoddy special effects, a leak of the entire film sans said effects, and an underdeveloped plot. But the not-quite sequel has a real shot at being better, and we've got the plot synopsis to prove it.

Let's get the synopsis out there and then talk about it. Here we go!

"Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before"

So the first, and perhaps most important thing to note, is that The Wolverine is based on the comic series of the same title as written by Chris Claremont and drawn by Frank Miller, both arguably in the prime of their careers.

With James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) directing and earlier promises made by Hugh Jackman himself that there wouldn't be many other mutants in the film, The Wolverine sounds like it's taking the source material (and itself) a lot more seriously.

With all that on the table, do you think you'll check out The Wolverine when it opens on July 26 of next year?
