Way back in the mid-2000s, when The Avengers was nothing more than just a big idea over at Marvel, they took a gamble to see if Robert Downey, Jr. could make Iron Man a mainstream hit. Lucky for them, and us, it worked—and now the franchise is one of the biggest on the planet. But did you know his classic armor and cool toys originally had a different look that didn't make it to the screen?
Concept artist Harald Belker was on the original art team for the first film and came up with everything from a kick-ass Iron Man car to some extra rocket launchers that would've been attached to the suit. He also engineered a sci-fi-tinged internal look of the armor mask.
Sadly, a lot of Belker's work never made it off the page, but the detail he carved out is definitely worth seeing. Plus, that Iron Man car is just awesome.
