Cassandra Clare's successful series The Mortal Instruments is the latest YA offering to make its way to the big screen. We've got its first trailer and it looks like there's a nice blending of Buffy and Harry Potter, with just a splash of Twilight that could make Instruments the next big thing.
The story for the first book, City of Bones, introduces us to Clary Fray, a young girl who turns out to be more than she knew she was. After seeing a number of things and people no one else seems to, Clary discovers that she is descended from a group of half-angels, called Shadowhunters, who fight to keep balance to the universe by battling with demons.
Add to that the dark, alternate version of New York, called Downworld, and you've got a concept that does a nice job of blending familiar YA tropes with just enough fresh to engage. Take a look at the first trailer and let us know what you think.
