Along with all the buzzy up-and-comers we've been hearing about, some big names have also been floated to potentially tackle the upcoming Star Wars VII. Among them? None other than George Lucas' famed Indiana Jones collaborator Steven Spielberg. So what are the odds he's making a play for the new Star Wars?
Not good, according to Spielberg.
His reply:
"No! No! It's not my genre, it's my best friend George's genre."With everything from Robopocalypse to Jurassic Park 4 on his plate, you'd have to think Spielberg has generated more than enough of his own blockbusters that he has little need to go playing in Lucas' most famous sandbox.
Though the Star Wars revival is riding a mountain of buzz, Spielberg isn't the only big-name director to publicly take a pass. Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds) recently told Entertainment Weekly he could "care less," mostly because of Disney's involvement.
Then Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) told the L.A. Times it just feels like too big of a commitment to sign on for something poised to kick off another long-running string of films:
I don't think I'd be interested in [directing it]... I'm a huge Star Wars fanatic. I just think doing episodes seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It's a whole other mythological experiment I'm excited to see, but it's a lot of effort."So there you go. You can probably mark those three off your wish list.
