Christopher Nolan accomplished many things between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises,
but one thing that was never fully realized was the backstory of Bruce
Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Good thing actor Michael Caine came
up with one himself.
Nolan provided some small tidbits as to who Alfred was, most notably that he was ex-special forces, but beyond that, we just don't know. Thankfully, Caine comes to the rescue. The important stuff begins around 1:05.
What's interesting here is that, since Nolan was, apparently, so trusting of his actors, that may very well be the official backstory for this version of Alfred.
