VR helmet plus treadmill is a peek at the first real holodeck

Last month we gave you a look at the Virtuix Omni, an omnidirectional treadmill that's trying to enable true virtual reality that you can physically move around in. Now the developer of that device has combined the Virtuix Omni with the widely acknowledged state-of-the-art in accessible VR displays, the Oculus Rift, giving us what may be the first baby steps toward a real holodeck.
Posted over the weekend by the Virtuix Omni team, who just got their hands on the Oculus Rift, the video demonstration is beyond exciting for anyone who has ever played a first-person shooter and dreamed of getting more physically involved in the action. Of course the Virtuix Omni doesn't let you perform crazy in-game dynamic motions like climbing and flipping, thus limiting the normal motions of a virtual character, but this is an incredible first step.

Couch potatoes, your day has arrived! There is now a very real chance that hardcore gamers will, through this kind of technology, become almost as fit as people who hit the gym everyday. You and can see the combination VR rig in action in the video below. VIDEO
