This Greek myth flick, directed by Renny Harlin, stars a really, really buff Kellan Lutz (Twilight)
in the titular role of Hercules, the bastard son of Zeus. His destiny
is to overthrow King Amphitryon (Scott Adkins) and bring peace to the
land. But when all’s said and done, all Hercules wants is the sweet,
sweet love of Hebe (Gaia Weiss), the Princess of Crete, who is betrothed
to his not-so-very-nice brother Iphicles (Liam Garrigan).
After
figuring out his destiny, Hercules must choose between love and
fighting King Amphitryon’s army to become the legendary hero we all know
and love.
Some of the stuff’s a bit cheesy, but
there are some nifty fight and battle sequences in the trailer, and the
hero wields a cool lightning sword that almost acts like a whip thingie
(he is the son of Zeus, after all). It’s not difficult to be reminded of Zack Snyder’s 300, or Ridley Scott’s Gladiator mixed in with a dose of Starz’s Spartacus for good measure. Funnily enough, Spartacus himself, actor Liam McIntyre, is also in the film.
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys The Legend Begins
is one of two films starring the legendary Greek hero coming up in the
upcoming year—the other stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the fabled
demigod and is directed by Brett Ratner.
The legend will begin in theaters on Jan. 10, 2014.
