Two cars claiming to be the fastest production models ever built in their classes finally went head-to-head for the heavyweight championship this weekend in a showdown between Dodge’s Hellcat line and Tesla’s new AWD Model S.
Dodge claims its 2015 Challenger Hellcat is the fastest production model muscle car ever made, while Tesla staked the same claim in the overall sedan category for its dual-motor P85D when it was unveiled last fall (Dodge boasts the same of its 4-door Charger Hellcat).
While we have yet to see the latter two drag it out for that particular title, the next best thing is the 707-horsepower, 645 pound-feet torque Challenger, which took on the 691-horsepower, 687 pound-feet torque Model S in the quarter-mile ring last weekend.
Though multiple publications report various results, both can hit 60 m.p.h. in less than 4 seconds with the Challenger topping out at around 200 m.p.h. and the Tesla at 155 m.p.h. Dodge also claims the Challenger can do a 10.8-second quarter mile, while the Model S clocks its at 11.8 seconds.

The Tesla takes the lead from the start and never loses it, officially setting a world-record quarter mile of 11.68 seconds at 114 m.p.h., and demolishing the Challenger’s 17.46 seconds at 82 m.p.h. (thanks in part to the Challenger driver leaving the car’s launch control off and red-lining off the line).
Though Tesla holds the title against the Hellcat line for now, we can’t wait to see it take on the Charger (preferably with a better driver) to find out who has the faster four-door out there. LINK
