Was there ever any doubt that James Cameron was going to milk last year's smash hitAvatar with sequels? We had an inkling of a feeling that he would do it. Cameron jointly announced with 20th Century Fox that he would be bringing fans back to Pandora with two new Avatar films.
Cameron will likely shoot both Avatar films — tentatively titled "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3" — with 3D cameras again. The famed filmmaker ushered in a new era of 3D when the first Avatar raked in over $2.8 billion dollars to become the highest-grossing film ever. We're sure the expensive 3D tickets with the flimsy RealD 3D glasses helped contribute to that number. Since Avatar's debut, Cameron has been telling filmmakers to shoot in 3D and not in 2D and then convert to 3D. He wants more movies shot intentionally in 3D, as the 3D effect seems to be more pleasant than those that are converted (anyone remember the Clash of the Titants remake?).
Avatar 2 is expected to arrive in theaters by December 2014 and Avatar 3 in December 2015. Now that the the movies are set, what exactly will Cameron include in his film? Oh I'm sure fans wouldn't mind some deeper exploration of that Na'vi sex Mr. Cameron! Will you shell out more dough to watch another Avatar movie in 3D again if you were burned the first time?
