Apple doesn't need to make a game console. It already has one — the iPad 2. Touchgen hooked up an iPad 2 to a 50-inch HDTV via the new HDMI cable and fired up Epic's Unreal Engine 3-powered Infinity Blade and the conclusion is that games look fantastic on the big screen.
This isn't Angry Birds, it's freakin' Infinity Blade, easily the best looking game on iPad, optimized and enhanced for the iPad 2. Despite the iPad 2 having only a 1024x768 resolution screen, games blown up on a large flat screen look amazing, no doubt thanks to the nine times in graphics improvement the tablet boasts.
People are even saying it rivals the PS3 and Xbox 360. While, I'm not so sure the iPad 2 is quite that good, it's still very impressive for a tablet. Take a look at those neat lighting shimmers.
Playing iPad 2 games on an HDTV might be a doozy, but with quad-core tablets primed for next year, gaming on tablets only stands to get even more jaw-dropping. For a bonus video of Real Racing HDoutput on the 50-inch HDTV, click on over to Touchgen.
