Director Zack Snyder has chosen the actress who will play Lois Lane in his upcoming reboot of Superman—and she's a three-time Oscar nominee.
According to Hero Complex, 36-year-old Amy Adams (most recently nominated for Best Supporting Actress in The Fighter) has landed the role of the feisty Daily Planet reporter and love of Superman's life after weeks of speculation over who would win the part. Snyder called Adams from Paris, where he is promoting his newly-released Sucker Punch, to give her the news.
Snyder said, "There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it."
Although there were even some rumors that Lois Lane would not even appear in the
movie, Snyder called the character a "linchpin" to the film even while avoiding discussion
of how Lois will factor into the movie's plot.

He did say, however, that the character—previously played on the big screen by Margot Kidder (Superman, Superman II and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace) and Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns)—would be updated along the same lines as Superman himself. Snyder explained, "What's important to us is making (Superman) relevant and real and making him empathetic to today's audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him (in tone and substance)."
Adams joins a cast that now includes Henry Cavill as Superman, along with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as his adopted Earth parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. Still to be cast: the villain(s).
