PORSCHE TELLS HOW “THE BEAST” GT2 RS WAS BORN AT AMERICAN REVEAL [VIDEO]

Although we may just have learned of a more powerful GT3 RS limited edition model is in the works as of Friday, Porsche is also proud to announce that it has begun delivering its most powerful road-going car ever in North America – the GT2 RS.

Late last week Porsche delivered the first 20 examples of what was internally known as “The Beast” to the first 20 customers to order their rear-wheel drive 620 horsepower supercars. The GT2 RS is a unique Porsche in that it combines the focus on weight savings from the GT3 RS with the rear-wheel drive layout of the GT2, forming a car that is meant to deliver a unique driving experience with performance levels never before seen from the automaker.
Given the nature of the car, its significance to the brand and the work put into its development, Porsche decided to host a very special delivery event at the now closed El Toro Air Force base located in Irvine, California, which is also home to Top Gear America. While Porsche may not have had The Stig on hand to give driving instructions to the GT2 RS‘s eager new owners, the German automaker did have many in-house Porsche driving instructors on hand.
Also at the event was Andreas Preuninger, the Manager of High PerformanceCars for Porsche, who narrated the video and explained the interesting background of Porsche’s latest supercar.
Hopefully the personal lessons given by Porsche’s certified driving instructors will help to keep these GT2 RS models on the road where they belong, and not buried in a ditch or wrapped around a tree like so many supercars invariably end up. All 500 models set to be produced for global consumption have already been spoken for.
