Check out this new TV spot for the forthcoming sequel to one of the greatest video games of all time, Portal. It's got robots, Aperture Science Handheld Portal Devices, and GLaDOS' creepy synthesized voice that makes you excited and terrified at the same time.
Work on Portal 2 began pretty much immediately after the release of Portal, so it's been in development for something like four years now. If you're not familiar with the game, the basic principle is that you've got this sweet gun that can create what's essentially a wormhole. You can stick the two ends of the wormhole anywhere you want, and then go in one hole and come out the other hole. By doing clever things with positioning and momentum, you can use your portals (and a basic knowledge of physics) to progress through the puzzle-like courses in the game, all while being taunted by a psychotic artificial intelligence. And it's way, way more fun than I just made it sound.
The best thing about Portal 2 looks to be that it's going to be just like Portal, except with more than double the Portalness. There's going to be twice as much single player content, plus a whole new finger-blisteringly complex two player co-op mode. And you'll be a robot!
Portal 2 will be released for the PC, Mac and Xbox 360 next month, and you can pre-order it now for about $50. Check out one more vid, just below.
