There's good news for all you Riddick fans out there. It seems that with Diesel's career back on the rise, there's a plan to make Pitch Black into a trilogy. There's a catch, though, and Vin's asking his fans for some spiritual (read: financial) advice.
He recently wrote on his Facebook page:
"GRRRR.. D T the writer/director just landed in New York with the good news. We can start filming this summer. However, there is a catch ... in order for us to make a true R rated film, I must work for scale upfront. Not unlike the "Find me Guilty" experience (which I wouldn't have changed for the world)...I believe the phrase you're looking for is "Someone call the waaaahmbulance!" Let's cast petty mockery aside for the moment, though, and be there for Vin. Here's our advice:
Money is always second to art, integrity and spirit ... but the real issue is deeper. Can I suspend my life, to momentarily venture to that dark place ... called Riddick.
Now, I need to hear from Our collective ... you.
Wisdom and clarity appreciated."
You want to make it? Make it. You want it to carry a full R rating for the sake of authentic storytelling? The consequence is you get paid significantly less up front. Riddick is the kind of series that does well beyond theaters, anyway. Not only are there DVD sales aplenty, but I imagine we'll see action figures, T-shirts, posters, another video game and Riddick brand toiletries, even. The point is, money will be made. Just contract yourself up so you get a piece of that sweet, sweet merchandising cash.
What do you think? Do you want to see another Riddick movie? Is it worth the incredible sacrifice? LINK
