CLEVELAND (Reuters) – A four-year-old girl died after an accident on a mini-dirt bike with training wheels on an outdoor track in Ohio, officials said Friday.
The girl, a resident of Medina County, died Thursday night after riding the vehicle at Apple Cabin in Lafayette County, said Medina County Sheriff's Patrol Commander Lt. Matthew Linscott.
No charges have been filed but the investigation is still ongoing and an autopsy has been ordered, Linscott said.
The multiple tracks are located in an apple orchard and open only on Thursdays in the summer.
According to RiderPlanet USA, a website promoting racing and motor cross riding, Apple Cabin has a $15 fee for "pee wee riders." A video on the site shows mini motorbikes with training wheels riding on dirt paths lined with flags and truck tires.
Linscott said Ohio law does not prohibit minors from operating motorized vehicles on private property and that the girl's father signed consent forms.
A statement from the sheriff's office is expected early next week. Linscott was not aware of any other fatalities at the tracks.
A representative for Apple Cabin could not be reached for comment. LINK
